Summary

This release introduces the core Industry Data Exchange (IDX) platform capabilities, providing a unified, secure, and scalable framework for data exchange between AEMO and Market Participants.

It establishes foundational IDX services, including API Application Programming Interface; a set of clearly defined methods of communication between various software components.‑based data exchange, operational controls, participant visibility, and security mechanisms. The platform is demonstrated using Basic Power Quality Data (BPQD) as the first IDX Business As defined in the NERL. Function. For details, see the Industry Data Exchange – Basic Power Quality Data – June 2026 technical specification.

Industry data exchange core platform

IDX provides a common integration layer supporting multiple data exchange patterns, including Fire and Forget, Asynchronous, and Synchronous messaging. It introduces standardised routing, transaction tracking, flow control, and security controls across markets and business functions.

IDX APIs

The release delivers a suite of platform APIs for managing and supporting message exchange, including:

  • Flow Control API

  • Business Function Information API

  • Transaction Log API

  • Archive API

These APIs operate through AEMO’s API Gateway Part of AEMO's API -e-Hub used by participants and AEMO to push or pull messages using RESTful APIs. Some APIs are accessible over the internet and MarketNet. using HTTPS Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure, adds the security capabilities of SSL to standard HTTP communications. and OAuth 2.0 authentication and apply across B2B and B2M business functions.

Event notification API

A WebSocket API enables near real‑time event notifications between AEMO and participant systems.

Markets portal IDX web interfaces

New IDX interfaces are introduced in the Markets Portal Web applications for registered participants only. Requires access to MarketNet. to allow participants to monitor and manage data exchanges, including:

  • Transaction Log

  • Outbound Archive

  • Flow Control

  • Participant Status

These interfaces provide visibility of message status, transaction history, queue thresholds, and participant‑level flow control.

Flow control management

IDX introduces automated and manual flow control mechanisms based on configurable watermark thresholds. These controls manage message sequencing, throttling, and queue congestion.

TLS certificate management

The release introduces dual TLS certificate support for non‑repudiation, allowing participants to nominate primary and secondary signing certificates for IDX communication.

AEMO gateway software

AEMO Gateway Software is introduced as the participant‑side integration component for IDX and also includes Participant Batcher An application providing an interface for batch transactions, called MSATS Participant Batcher. (B2B file exchange) and pdrBatcher Software responsible for transferring files to and from AEMO's participant file server to the participant's local Data Interchange folders. It can be installed in any environment supporting Java. (Wholesale Data Interchange A set of cooperating applications used to replicate data between AEMO's energy market systems and a participant's DBMS conforming to the MMS Data Model. replication) tools.
